Standing ovation at Cannes Lions
Bob Geldof and Kofi Annan received a standing ovation from the packed auditorium at the 57th Annual Cannes Lions Festival following their appeal to help lobby for positive change at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Copenhagen this December. Introduced by Hervé de Clerck 'Dream Leader' of ACT Responsible, Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and current President of the Global Humanitarian Forum gave a factual account of the political implications of our climate change responsibilities and the extreme importance of achieving a positive result this year in Denmark, concluding: "The fact is that the developed world has climate control, while the undeveloped world suffers climate change - we are fighting for climate justice". Annan went on to introduce David Jones, the Global CEO of Havas Worldwide, the agency behind the initial creative work for the Copenhagen campaign, titled 'TCK TCK TCK', conveying the fact that the global climate clock is ticking and it's time to make a change. Then Bob Geldof went on to give a no holds barred account of just how urgent the climate change threat is, with frightening and compelling scientific statistics. "This is where you, a gathering of the world's most intelligent and creative people come in - we want all of you to think how you can help us make this change." He concluded by saying "Basically this is our last chance to achieve what Kyoto could not, because after this it will be too late." View the conference
